Butterstick

Here's a story about the Internet and pandas.

A panda is born in the National Zoo. Because doctors pronounce him (at birth) to be about as big as a "stick of butter," bloggers (and soon even Bloomberg) begins to refer to the baby panda as Butterstick. The panda - according to a Chinese tradition I didn't know about - doesn't get officially named until it's 100 days old.

The National Zoo decides to let the American Internet-surfin' public decide the name of the new panda through an online poll. But the names are all...Chinese. And some of them are kind of lame.

Dissatisfied, a blogger creates his own version of the poll web form that allows you to vote for the name everyone alreadys knows and loves: Butterstick.

About two hours ago today, the National Zoo responded by securing the script that processes form entries, eliminating the possibility of voting Butterstick.

The End (?)
