Bones

All the computer parts I ordered from NewEgg arrived yesterday, so I spent last night ripping the innards out of my old Dell (really, just a few drives and cards) and putting together my brand new computer.

I cheated a little, in that I ordered a barebones kit so that I wouldn't have to put the motherboard or power supply in the case. Still, it was the first processor I've ever installed (and an AMD at that - look at me! Putting Katie's friend's parent's out of business by not buying Intel) and the first machine I put together from components at all. It was nice when I finally got it working, although Windows XP didn't like being transferred from one machine to the other, so I had to reinstall it.

The old Dell, though, isn't faring as well. I planned to turn it into a TiVo box, but I think the video card gave out or something, because I can't get anything to show up on the screen when I turn it on, even though it chugs along. I'll see if I can get a cheap video card today and fix that up.

Speaking of today, Katie's friend Meng comes to visit today from New York City. Whee! So we'll be tooling around all Asian-style and eating some moon cakes or doing dragon dances or something. We'll probably just go to Lu Lu's.

Survivor: Hwatemala premieres tonight, so that's exciting.

I have such a different relationship with the two high school friends I kind of keep in touch with. I really only speak to them on IM, but the conversations differ greatly.

Danny:
(16:23:21) Danny: as I'm now a blogger, we're like the masons
(16:23:25) Scoot: ha.
(16:23:30) Scoot: did you get your blogger pin yet?
(16:23:34) Danny: no
(16:23:44) Danny: probably when the other divisions are up
(16:23:46) Scoot: then you're not a real blogger. you have to prove yourself.
(16:23:53) Scoot: you have to kill someone who uses livejournal.
(16:24:04) Scoot: discreetly
(16:24:14) Danny: whoa! I thought this was like a country club, not a gang
(16:28:47) Scoot: you have much to learn
(16:29:07) Danny: it's now a kung fu movie
(16:30:34) Danny: remember Virtual Boy>?

Matt:
(15:01:47) Matt: well...i rode my bike 127 yesterday
(15:01:52) Matt: that's a new personal record
(15:02:26) Scoot: 127?
(15:03:19) Matt: miles yeah
(15:05:32) Scoot: wow
(15:05:37) Scoot: did you do anything else yesterday?
(15:06:57) Matt: yeah i ran 3 miles right after but then...no
(15:07:01) Matt: nothing i was pretty dead
(15:07:08) Scoot: You're a machine.
(15:07:14) Matt: took the dog to run around, sat at the dog park for 2 hours
(15:07:18) Matt: too tired to go home
(15:07:22) Matt: gotta get fast man
(15:07:24) Scoot: Remember when you said you thought I was a robot? Up until, like, 6th grade or something.

That last line's a teaser, I know. I'm off to play World of Warcraft! Or document the new progress monitors for the 3.0 release. One of those two.

Hey. Alex and I think that you and Katie should start up a regional theatre company in Pittsburgh and call it Scott 'n' Katie Theatre. (Alex: "Well, YOU think that it should be called that, I don't.") We're serious about this.
